The Boy’s Needs

Posted by girlie on May 18, 2011

School will start in a month. This is usually the time when I buy new stuff for my boy. This does not happen every year though because sometimes there is no need to buy a new one. I only buy stuff when it does not fit him anymore. I went through his things and I found out that he needs new set of underwear. I normally buy 3 dozens to last him the whole year. If it still fits him, then he still can use it the following year. You see we need to find ways and means to stretch our budget. So for stuff that does not need replacement, I don’t usually buy. My boy has a favorite brand and I usually buy it. I don’t go for different brands anymore because he has this habit of sticking to the brand that he already tried. In this case, his current favorite now is fruit of the loom. I can understand why he likes it a lot. It’s soft to the skin. My son has very sensitive skin so he prefers soft clothing. I have tried it myself in fact I have a few undershirts of the same brand. He has tried the boys underwear already and he likes it. Hopefully I find another time to go to the mall. I hope the weather cooperates too, it’s hard to be out when it’s very sunny!

My Musician

Posted by girlie on August 16, 2010

PhotobucketI finally bought the boy his violin. He’s been bugging me since last summer to let him take violin lessons. He wants to learn how to play a musical instrument particularly the violin before he dies. That’s what he told me. I am as excited as he is. I can’t wait for him to be able to play his first piece. I think he will learn fast because I really see the interest in him. Hopefully he’ll love it more and develop a passion for it.

My Lil Man

Posted by girlie on March 6, 2010

Now that my lil man is 14, he’s into a lot of things already. Seems like it was only yesterday when he was content to just playing with his gameboy. Now he’s into different kinds of stuff and is very particular about brands and stuff now. I have to start saving more because he’s into electronics pretty much too. He knows what he wants and I am just amazed. He reads product reviews by himself and would tell me, Mom this is what I need. I read that…and he starts talking like some geek or something. He’s totally grown up, a certified (lil) man!

Kids’ Share

Photobucket I allowed both my kids to help in their school’s relief operation. They went on separate dates though and each of them have their own stories to tell. I admit, I was quite worried at first because they are not really used to this. I “sheltered” them to the point that they don’t really know what’s happening outside our home. Good thing they both found it fun to be out there. My son felt that he was really “special” but that didn’t deter him to mingle with other people, in fact he wants to go again and help in the school’s relief efforts. Ish on the other hand have a soft spot for kids. The first thing she told me was that “I love the kids Mom, one even wanted to go with us. I am just too happy that I allowed them to go even if someone was really hesitant at first. It opened their eyes and saw the big picture, that not everyone is materially blessed, and that there will never be a room for complaints inside our home.

Photobucket The birthday boy with Lolo (grandpa)

Photobucket 3 gen V

Photobucket Bday boy’s favorite

We celebrated J’s 13th birthday on Sunday upon the request of the in-laws. Initially he wanted it done in Friday’s, but since the old folks didn’t like it there, we went to a chinese restaurant instead. We feasted on all his favorite food, crabs and peking duck included. Or should I say my favorite food, with fried pigeon as bonus ^_^. He doesn’t want to have his photos taken, but since it was his birthday, I took the opportunity to take some, telling him that he should have a least some photos on his 13th birthday.

Photobucket With his “girlfriend”

Photobucket and the other girl in his life.

Ok, wish granted. We surprised him by going to Friday’s when they got home from school. He was the one who ordered (feeling like a real grown up man), and I allowed him to eat anything, including the Cs (chocolate and coke) that his doctor does not allow him to have. It’s his birthday anyway.

Photobucket Of course his birthday will not be complete without playing in Timezone. Again we allowed him to stay up late, it’s his birthday!

Acne? I Hope Not

Posted by girlie on October 3, 2008

My boy was craving for a facial. He got mad at us for not bringing him when me and my daughter had it 2 weeks ago. We were in Greenhills last Saturday so I took the opportunity of bringing him for a facial. The dermatologist on duty was quite bothered by pimples popping out, so she prescribed some medication for it. I hate to think about it, I don’t want him to end up having acne. Yeah, the next time I’m having him checked, I have to ask the dermatologist if this acne treatment is good. I’m just being ready in case my son needs one. At least it will come in handy.

3 Doctors in a Day

Posted by girlie on September 20, 2008

My son Josh didn’t go to school last Friday. When he was getting ready for school, all of a sudden he felt a stabbing pain in his chest. Heart burn I guess. Panic time for me since he told me he wanted to go see his pedia. This boy does not want to see his pedia really so it must be something for him. Anyway, I brought him to his pedia first, and we were advised to have ECG. When the results came out, thank God nothing was wrong with him. I also asked his pedia to recommend me to a Pediatric ENT, since he’s got stuffy nose almost everyday accompanied by headache. Then he has this mannerism of bowing his head, which to me was one way of easing whatever pain he feels in this throat or something. True enough his voicebox is kinda sore and reddish, then his left nostril is bigger than his right, thus the stuffy nose. The cause of the headache the doctor said was nasal drip. He was prescribed a nasal spray and some medication for the sore voicebox. The cause of the heartburn? Too much acid in the stomach which went up. Now he is not allowed to have chocolates, caffeine, citric, chili and carbonated drinks. And he tells me…what all my favorites “bawal” ( he’s not allowed). Oh well…that’s life darling boy. If that’s one way of helping you lose weight, that’s it, we can’t do anything about that. You said you want to lose weight, so now is the start of your journey.

Ultimate Job

Posted by girlie on September 14, 2008

I really couldn’t remember how we ended up in this conversation.  My son was talking about the jobs he wants to have when he’s out of college.  On top of his list is being a chef, a surgeon,  a photographer, then a computer programmer, a teacher, a stylist (ala Zohan, goodness, I wanted to smack my forehead).  I told him that they only make good money in the movies.  I know they do make good money but hey I don’t like him to be that.  And he wants to be a domestic helper in America because he says they make good money, even better than those holding decent jobs (smacks forehead again).  I don’t know if he’s being serious or he just wants to humor me.  And listen to this…”oh Mom, I want to have the ultimate job…a blogger.  Seriously Mom, do you really make money?  Like what, $5 once in a blue moon?”  At this point I couldn’t stop laughing.  I wanted to stop the car and park at the side of the road.  Really this lil big boy of mine can be hilarious at times…oh make that all the time.  This is actually the reason why I love driving them around.  Conversations like this normally happens in the car.

My Lil Critic

Posted by girlie on August 26, 2008

Josh: Mom, you need to color your hair. You look old.
Me: Oh yes, I will, I just can’t find time to do it, I’m sorry.
Josh: (thinking that I felt bad) No Mom it’s ok. Anyway you are in your 40s already. But you look 50(ish).
Me: Ok, ok, I’ll do it tomorrow. (note to self: get your @ss off and dye)

This boy of mine would always tell me with all honesty what he thinks. What he thinks of my outfit, what he thinks of my new hairstyle, what ever different he will take notice. He would always come to me and tell me. I love him for that, and I believe what he says (kids don’t lie, right?), LOL. He was the one who said that jet black hair does not suit me…I look like a witch, bwaaaahhh.

My Lil Chef

Posted by girlie on August 24, 2008

Photobucket Josh brought that home yesterday from his Saturday activity which is cooking. Seems like my son is really serious about wanting to be a chef. Cooking for boys is what he chose for his Saturday activity in school. Honestly I liked what he picked. It would prepare him to what he wants to become someday. Yeah I think he is serious about wanting to be a chef. Like today he helped out in the kitchen. He wanted to overcome his fear of using a knife, so I let him cut some meatballs. He was also our cook. Pardon me if I can’t show you pictures, he does not want to be photographed.

Bohemian Rhapsody

Posted by girlie on July 22, 2008

Everytime we are in the car, Josh wants his Dad to play this song. I think he now memorizes it with the constant playing. I love watching my son do a lip synch of this song, with matching emo. Yeah he is good, we (me and Ish) even suggested that we take a vid of him while doing his act and post it on youtube. He doesn’t like it coz he says he’s just making a fool out of himself. His sister does not believe so. She believes in her brother’s talent and even thinks he can make it big in youtube. Ah kids, they’re crazy. I love them the way they are, they make me happy.

*Note: The Hubs played Dion-Pavarotti’s I Hate You Then I Love You, apparently Josh can’t quite get it and he says, “I don’t quite get that, I hate you then I love you…how can that be?” This boy’s really something!

Date with a Young Man

Posted by girlie on June 11, 2008

Photobucket Bob, the lovable fatso is my favorite character in Tekken 6.  Nah, I didn’t go out with him, LOL.  Anyway, I promised to bring my son to Timezone before school starts…just the two of us.  It happened yesterday.  We had lunch at his favorite restaurant  Cibo.  He ordered Al Nero (black pasta).  My guy knows how to eat good food.  At his age (12), you wouldn’t think that he would go for black noodles, it’s not a sight to behold.  But as it is, this young man would go for anything.  Maybe he got that from me, I am not scared to try anything.

After lunch, we rushed to Timezone.  He had fun playing, without someone bothering him to go home.  He played for four hours. I wanted to play with him, but there was no vacant slot, I played Tekken 5 instead. I got bored playing against the cpu, haha go figure why. When in Greenhills, I can’t stop myself from shopping, err window shopping I mean. Yep, I didn’t buy anything which is very unusual. Haha, talking about being a rehabilitated shopaholic. Then I said to myself, why don’t I work while waiting for my guy? So I went to an internet cafe. Nah, I was not able to work, not used to the environment, to the pc, to the keyboard. I didn’t feel comfortable at all. Probably I spent about 15 minutes in the shop only. I find surfing at home better.

*I’m not allowed to take pictures, so I don’t have anything to share. He is at this stage that he does not want to be seen across the net, LOL*

Extended Vacation

Posted by girlie on June 9, 2008

Photobucket The kids were suppose to go back to school on the 5th. Then it was moved to 12th, now it’s moved to the 17th. What? “The construction for the college is not done yet”, said my daughter. This happened last school year too. My boy started school last week of June, can you believe that? I don’t understand why they still haven’t finished the construction until now. They could have gone overtime on this. Now the students are sufferring. Learning would be quite fast paced. What will happen to students who can’t cope up with the situation? Let’s face it, not all students has the capacity to absorb everything in so short a time. Teachers will cram just to be able to follow the curriculum on schedule. Why can’t the school officials be sensitive on this matter?

Kids are happy over the extended vacation, my children included. Another 2 weeks break is just big time for them. And why not? They find studying in that school quite stressful, now double that because of the extended break.

Tekken 5 Before Bed

Posted by girlie on June 2, 2008

Photobucket This is what we do before going to bed. We (me and Josh) take turns playing Tekken 5. We actually want to play Tekken 6 but as of the moment there is only Tekken 5 for PSP. My son is really addicted to Tekken 6 and he wants to practice all the time. But for now when at home, it’s Tekken 5 we are enjoying. Sometimes his Dad is really bothered by the noise we create because of excitement. But it’s really fun playing before bed. It’s our kind of bonding, and nothing can beat that.

And the Reward is…

Yeah it’s the salad again, but this time with a twist, nope not a lemon twist, but I added grilled chicken strips this time. Pardon me but I know how to make just this kind of salad only, and this is what the family eats. Sometimes it’s all veggies, like I add cherry tomatoes and carrots, but since the kids are not really big fan of veggies, I decided to add fruits.

We are putting a kid on a diet, so you’ll be seeing the same salad over and over again, hehe. So far, so good. He finished everything I prepared for him. He didn’t ask for a midnight snack. See he is determined, or is it that he’s only after the reward, like what happened here, #2. His dad promised to get him PS3 if he goes down to 120 lbs…goolay long way to go, like 25 lbs. to shed.

Flyff

Posted by girlie on April 5, 2008

Photobucket My son has quit playing flyff PI for now. You know why? He can’t stand the players there. One time he came to me and asked, “Mom, what’s the meaning of ungas?” I told him that the meaning of ungas is bastard, or something like that, worst than gago and tanga. Apparently, he killed someone in the game accidentally, and the player got so mad. My son got soooo disappointed that for three days he didn’t play. Now he’s download flyff US and he loves it. He says it’s a good thing that he downloaded the US version, there he can understand what everyone else is saying.

Finals

Posted by girlie on February 28, 2008

Photobucket Wahoo! I’m finally done helping him with his final exams. Today is the last day of his final exams, and whenever I ask him how it was, he always says, “Mom it’s easy!” Well I believe him when he says that because I didn’t have a hard time reviewing him. He can even play with his PS2 in between. Oh there’s one more exam left, in Chinese…and since I don’t help him out with that, I will just leave all the work to his chinese tutor. Graduation rites will be on March 18, pretty early though, coz the previous graduation happens end of March or 1st week of April. Yay! It’s summer vacation once more. No more stress for the kids.

Easy Shift

Posted by girlie on January 8, 2008

I think my son would be happy if I buy him HDMI splitters. This splitter will make things easier for him. He will now be able to switch game consoles anytime he wants to without the hassle of changing cables. Normally he would call me or his nanny whenever he wants to shift consoles. Now this would save us the trouble of going up to his room and change cables. He is quite fickle minded and easily gets bored with the games he is playing. So I think it is just right to buy him this splitter.

The Birthday Boy

Posted by girlie on December 14, 2007

Josh:  Mom, I’m gonna treat my friends a day before my birthday.
Me: Ok, how much money do you need?
Josh: Hhmm, about 500 pesos.
Me: Ok, go ask money from Dad. (lol)

On thursday, his nanny came to me. “Magpapakain daw si Joshua ng KFC sa “Tutor”. (Josh already said that he’d treat all his co-tutees with KFC)

Me: Hey Josh, why did you not tell me ahead of time that you want to treat the kids at the tutor house? I could have made spaghetti and fried chicken for them instead of buying from KFC.
Josh: lalalala
Me: We could have saved money. Can I at least edit your choice of food? I don’t think we can afford to buy chicken with rice, fun shots, ice cream and coke for 58 people. That is just too much.
Josh: Oh ok. Just buy fun shots for the kids, but for the teachers I think the original choice will have to do.
Me: Can we just buy Zesto Orange instead of Coke? (again I was thinking of the great savings)
Josh: Mom, I’m no longer 8 years old.
Me: *note to self* Yeah right, zesto isn’t cool, SODA is in.

On our way home from school…
Josh: Mom, when does puberty start?
Me: Oh tomorrow, when you turn 12.
Josh: Hey Ishi, isn’t it that puberty starts when you’re 13?
Ish: Nah, it’s 12.
N: Why all of a sudden you are interested in finding out about puberty?
Josh: Nothing really.

**I bought him an iPod Nano  for his birthday.  He digs Linkin Park.  Now he wants something more, no wonder he has been throwing me kisses.**

My Darling Boy is Sick

Posted by girlie on December 4, 2007

I don’t know if it’s just coincidence, but it happens yearly.  My darling boy gets sick a week before his big day.  Today he called me at home asking if I could fetch him.  He was running a fever and had a terrible headache.  My poor little boy, if I can only be the one sick instead of him.  Anyways, he asked me to cook his favorite arroz caldo (rice porridge).  It’s a joy to see him eat, finishing a big bowl even if he was not feeling well.  I wonder what he’ll ask me to cook next.

Time Crisis

Posted by girlie on December 3, 2007

time.JPG  This is what I did with my darling boy Josh the past long weekend.  We spent some time playing the Time Crisis and just enjoyed ourselves to the max.  He was the first to choose a gun, leaving me with the inferior one =(  I didn’t really mind at all since he is the expert in this game.  Too bad his teevee is kinda small and it was kinda difficult to see and hit.  Haha, excuses!  This is one of our favorite games when we go to Timezone.  So instead of spending a lot just to be able to finish the game, we thought of buying the game and just let him play at home.  It’s pretty cool!  A nice way to de-stress.  You know just bang! bang! bang! your woes away, harhar.

Motherhood

Posted by girlie on December 2, 2007

teenagers.jpg  Seems like for the last 4 weekends, we have been watching movies.  Oh I love it when N treats us to movies.  It’s a nice way to bond with my teenagers.  We get to have dinner together at any restaurant we pick, we can play at timezone while waiting for the movie, or probably shop for a good 30 minutes.  It makes us closer as a family.  I wonder until when this will happen.  And while we are still at it, all I have to do is enjoy the company of my teenagers.  Yeah yeah teenager is stressed here.  Gosh it’s frustrating to have teenagers, sometimes I don’t and I can’t understand how they think.  I try to be cool as much as possible, but most of the time I can’t cope up.  So all I do every night is pray for them.  And the Lord has answered my prayers.  The teachers said  they’ve improved a lot in their attitude, which gave me a sigh of relief.  All I can do now is really pray harder and harder, for I can’t really take full control of them anymore.  Gone are the days when I can “terrorize” them to do some things.  Oh I love motherhood, a never ending challenge!

No Offense Meant

Posted by girlie on November 30, 2007

“No offense meant for Moms”, he said.  He was referring to mothers who did rice porridge for the first time but didn’t quite get it.  Lately my son has been eating chicken arroz caldo (rice porridge) in school.  He requested me to cook my version of rice porridge.  Well it’s not actually my own version but that of the internet and recipe book.  I too did not have an idea on how to make a rice porridge although my Mom has been feeding us with that when we were still young.  I searched and searched and found one in the internet and incorporated it with the one in the recipe book.  They all loved it!

Ingredients:

10 pcs. chicken (drumstick)
7 cups chicken stock
1 1/2 cups uncooked rice
  garlic (finely minced)
  onions
  ginger (match sized)
  knorr chicken cube
  olive oil
  patis (fish sauce)
  black pepper

Procedure:
Saute ginger, onion and garlic in olive oil and season with black pepper. Include chicken cube (I didn’t have enough chicken stock) and patis (fish sauce). Put the chicken and cook until it’s half done. Set aside the chicken. Put the uncooked rice and mix it with the flavor coming from the ginger, onion and garlic. Pour chicken stock and put back the chicken. Wait til rice softens stirring occasionally. Add more patis according to taste.

**I forgot to take a pic of my rice porridge, I was excited to let the family taste ^_^**

Sad…But Why?

Posted by girlie on November 10, 2007

We went to watch The Game Plan last night in the movie house.  Yes we enjoyed the movie so much, but it could have been better is all four of us watched.  But as it is, my darling boy Josh didn’t like to come with us.  I don’t like to force him because I don’t want to create friction between the two of us, neither do his dad.  I did a lot of convincing for him to join us, but it was all in vain.  He wants to be left at home, it seems that this online gaming is pretty much taking so much of his time.  I miss the time that the kids can tag along wherever we were going.  I miss the time that they will not allow us to leave without them in tow.  My oh my how time flies.  Now they choose their own activities.  FYI, I do require them to come with us if it is necessary, which I don’t accept no for an answer.

Let’s Go Paintball

Posted by girlie on November 9, 2007

On our way to Mall of Asia, my daughter saw some kids playing Paintball. She then asked us if we can let her experience play Paintball. Of course we said yes, as much as possible we want them to get involved in sports activities. That is one way of keeping them from so called “temptations.” She has friends who are into it already, so there is really no problem. I know they will enjoy a lot because it’s a fun game. I’ve watched my husband play and I can tell that he enjoyed it pretty much.

But before I can allow my daughter to play, I’ll let her visit this website called your-paintball.com. Everything you need to know about the game is there. They even have videos for you to watch so you can familiarize yourself on how the game works. They have a complete supply of the things you need in order to play like Paintball Guns and Paintball Gear. Of course you should equip yourself first before starting to play.
