I was a Success in the Kitchen Today
Posted by girlie on October 10, 2007
I am just running out of recipes to cook, I don’t know what to feed the family anymore. When I looked at the freezer last night, there was still enough for the week’s supply, but I didn’t know what to do with it. There’s beef brisket, sirloin, pork belly, squid, bangus belly, lapu-lapu, but my mind was just blank. Anyway, I woke up early to search the internet for some recipes. I wanted to do BBQ Beef Brisket, but what is a liquid smoke anyway? This is the first time I’ve heard about it plus I don’t have the time to go to the grocery or deli whatever, to get one. I ended up cooking braised beef instead. This is the first time that I cooked this so I was kinda worried that they may not like it. Same thing happened tonight. I had to call my Mom to ask for the recipe of her adobong pusit which is really good. But when I went down, I had a different squid, and not the ones my Mom uses. But still I followed her recipe. When we were at the table, Ish praised my cooking, both for lunch and dinner. She said it was yummy. Both N and Josh loved the adobong pusit too. See I’m a happy Momma, I tell you, this family is hard to feed.

The best part about cooking is getting praises for a good job done. You are a successful chef. I will never make that mark. I cant cook at all… LOL

Janice you are right, i’m floating in air especially if the kids like my cooking. It’s not too late yet, you can still learn. I’m still learning, without the aide of a cookbook and my taste buds, I can’t do it really.

heheee, ditto! kaya I search the recipe ren kaso para bang dami kelangan ingredients? hahaa anyways, I never tried liquid smoke but since I work in a big store I usually see small bottles of liquid smokes located in the aisles of the bbq stuff. It’s kinda sauce that gives a smoky flavor for meats, adding a smoked taste, I think yun ang sabi sakin ng mga tao dun eh lolz hirap mag prepare ng lulutin di po ba? mwahhh
xoxo
Thanks Kitty, now I know what a liquid smoke is. I have to find one in the grocery, masarap siguro yun ihalo sa beef baby back…that’s what I cooked for my brats last night

Iba naman family ko, ayaw na ng usual, sawa na daw sila. So as much as possible I try something new na sa tingin ko masarap.
Cooking is a great adventure, pero bahala na, e di pag di nila nagustuhan wag iluto ulit, hanap naman bago recipe

Hi girly girlie,
I need your help. My balikbayan brother arrived from the states and is really craving for filipino food. His ultimate request is pasta negra. I make pasta negra but I think it would be better if i do some alterations. Please. This is for noche buena. I really hope you read this.

Genny - This is how I do mine:
Ingredients:
Squid (big white ones)
Vinegar (native one preferred)
Soy Sauce (kikoman preferred)
salt
Garlic
Black Pepper
Olive oil
Parmessan Cheese
Procedure:
Clean the squid, set aside the ink. Cut squid into really small squares. Marinate squid in soy sauce, vinegar, garlic and pepper for about 30 minutes.
Start cooking (low fire) until it dries up a bit or until squid is soft. There should be some little sauce left. Add olive oil, then the black ink. The more black ink the better.
I hope I was able to help you, btw that’s what my kids requested to for noche buena, along with my mushroom pasta. If only I can have a pasta bar ^_^ Merry Christmas Genny!
